More About the Subject of these Paintings
Situated on either end of the Bibataubin Promenade, Plaza del Campillo and Plaza del Humilladero with their iconic fountains are where people in Granada meet.
The Fuente de las Batallas was moved to its current location in the Plaza del Campillo from the Genil Gardens in 1950 where it commemorated the battles of the french invasion of 1810. While the history of the fountain is somewhat lost and confused it remains a touchstone and a landmark showing the power of fountains to take on their own meaning and identities.
The Fountain of the Granadas by Ramiro Megías and was inaugurated in March 2007. It has become an icon of the city and shows that even in modern times water continues to be used to define the identity of the city.
