More About the Subject of these Paintings

This painting of the cargo dock at the Port of Málaga prompts viewers to reflect on the impact of human consumption and the environmental and social costs of the systems that support it. Despite its utilitarian subject matter, the painting also reveals a kind of beauty in the repetitive patterns and geometries of the places we create to support our human endeavors.

La Farola de Málaga was designed by naval engineer Joaquín María Pery y Guzmán in 1817 as a crucial infrastructural element of the expansion of the port to accept larger merchant vessels.   As a result of subsequent redevelopment it now stands in the heart of the tourist port, flanked by Malagueta beach, the Real Club Mediterráneo yacht club, the cruise ship dock, and the Pier Uno shopping mall.
